Not relevant because of the feat granting it, but 2 artificer can grant the entire party find familiar with an infusion. They all have strong utility over regular familiars and make the find familiar spell better, and synergize well with other class features which boost familiars, but by the time they come on-line, 22hp isn't really miles better than 2hp in combat, and they wouldn't really thumb the scales more than a warlock with an imp familiar would, at least IMHO.The familiar can equip an item of x strength, especially if there is a high enough level artificer.

I don't think the Strixhaven familiars are really OP, considering the cost (at least one feat, probably two if the DM doesn't allow the borked Strixhaven backgrounds which come with a bundled free Strixhaven feat) and can't come online before 4th level. Just a quick nitpick with the "whole party mount" idea- the fractal has a strength of 12 which RAW doesn't change however big it gets, so while it could certainly serve as a mount for a single character or maybe even a couple of light characters without too much equipment, it wouldn't have the carrying capacity to haul a whole party around. While large or huge, the fractal can easily serve as a mount, and if you have Investment of the Chain Master, it can be a flying mount capable of carrying the whole party This card has a statue that looks like an elk or stag. It looks humanoid on the planeswalker page from WOTC Arguably, it being a statue means that the form can be shaped. The Statue is medium, so it maybe can if it has a suitable form. The fractal mascot has a strength of 12, meaning it has a carrying capacity of 720 pounds, about the weight of 3 medium party members and 1 small one, gear includedThe Fractal is small, so it won't serve as a good mount regardless. carrying capacity doubles with each size category above medium. That's not a rule, it just needs sufficient carrying capacity. Your DM will beat your ass to death, but you will go down dying like a legend

  • Does your DM allow Flock of Familiars? Now you can drop 3 at a time from 200 feet up for up to 30d6 bludgeoning damage.
  • (Note: ask your DM if Investment applies to the DC 15 Dex save to avoid a falling creature, you might be able to bump that with the save DC) The ginormous flying fractal can just as easily go prone in mid air and land on creatures, doing falling damage.

  • Of course, if you have a melee heavy party there's still a combat use.
  • While large or huge, the fractal can easily serve as a mount, and if you have Investment of the Chain Master, it can be a flying mount capable of carrying the whole party.
  • Want to make a killer Jojo reference that only people who've read the manga will get? Have this familiar from another universe phase through a creature's body and expand, making them explode in a gory shower of fractals (Back in 3.5 this used to be called Arseplomancy).
  • Need to get into a locked chest? Just have it slip in, grab the contents and then dismiss it back to its pocket universe, then resummon it with the loot on the other side.
  • Combined with the teleportation, it can also be an easy way in and out.
  • The phasing makes the familiar an expert scout for behind locked doors.
  • So, what can you do with it? Here's what I've thought of so far
  • it can resize itself as a bonus action, though it maxes out at hugeīeing a familiar rather than something more generic, the fractal can do everything a familiar can do, and is also compatible with other options like Investment of the Chain Master or Flock of Familiars.
  • it can phase through objects and creatures.
  • you can swap places with it with a 2nd level spell slot (1 free use per long rest).
  • The actual options aren't exactly worth two feats, but I immediately took a shining to the Living Fractal, both because I like fractals and it has some abilities just begging for shenanigans One is basically just magic initiate, and the other (which requires the first feat) grants you one of five special familiars that you can summon with find familiar. For those who haven't seen the leaks, Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos added two new feats.
